My name is Shannon Doak, I am an Ed.D student and am currently the ES Technology Coach at the American International School of Guangzhou. Our grade 5 students are now beginning the research process for the PYP Exhibition. We are trying to introduce the idea of using various sources to gather data and are looking for experts to interview. The interview might just be an email of questions that would need to be answered. Below are some of the general topics they have come up with.
Overuse of Tech
Video Game Addiction
Impact of Technology
Video Game Addiction
If you would be willing to assist in this please either respond to this post or email me at email@example.com.
If I can develop a list of a few people willing to help then I can assist in connecting the students to the right person as their topics begin to narrow.
It would be great to connect some of our students to experts outside our walls!
I'm also in China at an international school in Beijing. Please feel free to send me some interview questions! If there is anything that you would like me to ask my MYP students, then let me know and I can share their answers as well.
How long have you been at ISB? Do you know Elvina and Glenn?
Will keep you in mind. What areas would you say are your areas of expertise....remember that these are grade 5 students so you are an expert compared to them
That hadn't even occurred to me, but you are referring to Elvina Tong? She's a friend of mine from the ADE programme . We met in HK at 21CLHK, and then did some ADE stuff in Bali, and last saw her when she was in Seoul for a conference at KIS. Small world! Say hi for me!
She used to work at my school. She isn't here anymore her and Glenn moved to ISB a while back and I think they have even left there to some other destination. Will have to check FB. It is a small world! Have we every met at 21CLHK? I have been every year for the past 4 years and presented the past 2 years.
I can't recall! I was there in 2013 and did a presentation on Edmodo, as well as sat on an LMS Panel. I haven't quite had the time/resources to go back since then but there's always a ton of people I know there! Maybe I'll be able to make it to the next one.
I'm not at ISB. I work at Beijing World Youth Academy.
I could answer questions about video game addiction and overuse of technology.
I miss read your first message. How are you liking it in Beijing?
Thanks again for offering to help.
I formerly worked at St. Paul as the ed-tech specialist (an international school here in Korea for 5 years) and still currently in Korea working for UCR and Hanyang University doing similar work/teaching. Feel free to contact me at whichever e-mail below you find to be the most convenient:
Awesome! Thanks for offering to help out. Since you did tech work before I will probably send you more tech related things. What areas are you particular to?
I did (and still do) LMS/CMS administration, some usage policy work. The "worst" that ever really happened to me was a few male students accessing pornography on the network, and at another time sharing it via Google Drive. Those were fun meetings to be in after with parents, the head of school, and the students.
Anyone offering to help, or anyone else for that matter, if you would like to connect with me on social media please do. I would love to expand my networks.
I'm a tech coach at the American International School of Johannesburg. I'd be happy to answer a few questions to help your students out with this.
Awesome Andrew! Will add you to the list.
I'm a Master's student currently, but also a 6th grade teacher in Montana. I'd be willing to answer any questions for them, and hopefully give some perspective from the rural United States!
I'm not sure you would qualify me as an expert, however.
My email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
You certainly are in the minds of a 5th grader thank you! I will share your name and email address with the mentor group.
