I've gotten quite a few late submissions of Proposed Plans of Study and, to a lesser extent, Applications for Admission to Candidacy. When these come in late, it creates an issue with receiving the certificate or diploma on time by causing the Application for Graduation to be filed late as well. Here are some facts regarding applying for graduation:
1) You must apply for graduation for EACH program that you are in; degree and certificate, if you are pursuing both.
2) Applications for graduation have deadlines and fees associated with them. The deadline for December graduation for 2016 was posted on the academic calendar as August 26, 2016. You may, however, apply for graduation up until the last day of instruction, but you will pay additional fees if you need to graduate in December. The point is, you do not have to wait until May 2017 to receive the certificate or diploma.
3) Please check your Academic Advisement Report to confirm that you have submitted both your Application for Admission to Candidacy and a Proposed Plan of Study for a graduate certificate if you are expecting to receive them in December 2016. While in your AAR, see if there is a link to apply for graduation from both a degree and a certificate, if applicable. If you see that you have not yet applied, go ahead and do so. There is still time to respond if you act soon.
