Presents environmental education lessons and tours to groups of all ages. Develops and teaches STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities for on-site and off-site programs and events. Assists with event or lesson development or other related work as required. Work is performed under general direction.
This is a part-time, 20-hours per week, position.
This position is designated as At-Will.
- Essential Functions
Lead public and school tours of Boise WaterShed facility and wastewater treatment plant. Teach a variety of hands-on lessons including outdoor education programs. Leads activities at events and community outreach on-site and off-site. Provides public with information regarding programs and services. Develops and updates curriculum, event-based lessons, community programs, volunteer offerings, and presentations to meet the changing needs of a variety of audiences. (70%)
Coordinates on-site events and/or special projects. Determines themes, activities, staffing needs, and resources and oversees the volunteers and activities during the event or project. (15%)
Communicate with all ages and all types of individuals and groups in a variety of settings, including indoor and outdoor environments. Perform clerical duties, such as using Microsoft Office, iPad applications, email, PowerPoint presentation with scientific content knowledge. Positively and courteously respond to phone and in-person inquiries. (15%)

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
One year experience teaching children in a formal or informal setting.
Knowledge of general computer programs and equipment.
Ability to communicate with clarity and conciseness to individuals and groups; convey respect, assistance, and resourcefulness, in a friendly manner; maintain a flexible schedule; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Bachelor's degree in science, education, or similar field. At least one year of experience with environmental education or working in a setting with children.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 20 lbs. Also the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs. Employees will sit and stand.
The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions.
