The Graduate College has notified us that they can no longer guarantee that Application for Admission to Candidacy (AAC) forms submitted after the published deadline will be processed in time for students to apply for graduation without incurring the late fee. Please see the Academic Calendar for AAC submission and Graduation Application submission deadlines.
I know this is not the kind of news you want to hear and it may impact some of you who have submitted AACs late (after the October 7, 2016 deadline for May 2017 graduates).
Students who submitted AAC forms after October 7th will be processed as time allows. The Graduate College estimates that the AACs they have in the office right now for Spring 2017 will be processed before the end of February. Please know that it is only after receiving notice that your AAC has been approved will you be able to apply for graduation; however, the last date to apply for a May graduation is January 13. Any applications for graduation received after that date will be assessed a late fee (doubles the $25 fee to $50).
The Graduate College expresses regret for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please note that the Summer 2017 AACs are due on February 17, 2017 and Fall 2017 AACs are due on June 30, 2017.
What this means for students in future is that the published deadlines are truly going to be treated as deadlines. The Graduate College has knocked themselves out in the past to accommodate students who submit forms late, but that will not be so true going forward. Please pay attention to the Academic Calendar and deadlines. We'll do our best to inform you of upcoming deadlines, but you must act on those warnings.
It looks as though the late fees are already in place. I went to apply for graduation today, and I am going to be charged double for both my Masters Degree and Certificate Program.
Sean (and others), my mistake...in the forum message I stated that the deadline for applying for graduation for May 2017 was February 13, when in fact it was January 13. Some typos really are unhelpful! Sorry!
We are working to come up with a system that will better notify students of deadlines and where to find the information that they may need.
