We recently notified students that the Graduate College would be more rigorously following published deadlines for administrative actions, such as filing timely Applications for Admission to Candidacy (AAC) and Proposed Plans of Study for a Graduate Certificate (PPS). Deadlines such as the following are posted on the Registrar’s Academic Calendar:
February 17, 2017 – Last day to submit Application for Admission to Candidacy form to the Graduate College for graduate degrees to be awarded in August 2017.
To file this document, go to the electronic form at this link: Application for Admission to Candidacy, and follow the in-form instructions. You need to list all 11 courses that you will need to meet your degree requirements: 5 core courses (EDTECH 501-505), 5 electives (your choice) and the culminating activity, EDTECH 592-Portfolio. Your Academic Advisement Report, accessed from within your Student Center, is a big help in completing this form.
Once this form has been submitted to and approved by the Graduate College, the most important follow-up action (which way too many students miss) is the instruction in the email to Apply for Graduation. Only after that action is taken will you be on the Registrar’s radar. The Registrar can’t read your mind to know when you plan to graduate; so this is the mechanism to ensure a timely (when you want it) graduation. One caveat: if you receive the notification from the Graduate College and you go to your Student Center to apply for graduation, you may not be able to since the window for doing so has not yet opened. That date is provided in the Academic Calendar and reads as follows for Summer term 2017:
June 2, 2017 - Last day to apply for graduation for graduate and undergraduate degrees and certificates to be awarded in August 2017. Late applications will be accepted but a late fee will be assessed. Students apply for graduation on myBoiseState.
You may wish to refer to the Steps to Graduation on the EdTech website, review the academic calendar, and then put reminders on your Google calendar so that there is less chance of being blindsided by a deadline.
