Greetings to all those students who are expecting to graduate in December 2017. Every term there are students who fail to apply in time for graduation from their degree or certificate program, thus delaying receiving their diploma or certificate. The deadline was August 25 to apply for graduation in December 2017, however, you may still apply, although a late fee now will be assessed. If you have other oversights, there is still time to take care of business!
So, just to be sure that you have done what needs to be done, please navigate to your Academic Advisement Report in your Student Center RIGHT AWAY and confirm two things:
1) That you have submitted and had approved your Application for Admission to Candidacy for your degree AND, if so, have also Applied for Graduation from your MET program, also from within your Student Center.
2) That you have submitted and had approved your Proposed Plan of Study for a Graduate Certificate (if you’re pursuing one) and have Applied for Graduation from your certificate program, also from within your Student Center.
3) I've gotten quite a few late submissions of Proposed Plans of Study and, to a lesser extent, Applications for Admission to Candidacy. When these come in late, it creates an issue with receiving the certificate or diploma on time by causing the Application for Graduation to be filed late as well. Here are some facts regarding applying for graduation:
i) You must apply for graduation for EACH program that you are in; degree and certificate, if you are pursuing both.
ii) Applications for graduation have deadlines and fees associated with them. The deadline for December graduation for 2017 was posted on the academic calendar as August 25, 2016. You may, however, apply for graduation up until the last day of instruction, but you will pay additional fees if you need to graduate in December. The point is, if you are late, you do not have to wait until May 2018 to receive the certificate or diploma.
iii) Please check your Academic Advisement Report to confirm that you have submitted both your Application for Admission to Candidacy and a Proposed Plan of Study for a graduate certificate if you are expecting to receive them in December 2017. While in your Student Center, also check to see if there is a link to apply for graduation from both a degree and a certificate program, if applicable. If you see that you have not yet applied, go ahead and do so. There is still time to respond if you act soon.
Contact me if you need help after you have reviewed your Academic Advisement Report and suspect that you might have an issue!
