Can any English teachers out there recommend a website (paid is also an option) that would be good for a middle school student work at their own pace? The student is a bit ahead of the rest of the class, and would have some guidance from the teacher, but would be working independently while the rest of the class is learning.
Thanks in advance!
Edmodo is a good option. It is free and the teacher can assign him his own projects with web links, videos, etc to do. He can even take quizzes through it! Very cool and easy to use (think facebook for schools)
Thanks Erin! Would the teacher have to create the materials, or is there a way on Edmodo to search for existing content and assign it to a student?
I teach English for Florida Virtual School and anyone can take classes with us. Out of state students are charged though. You can check out the program/classes at flvs.net
Debbie - that's a great idea. There are two courses that look relevant, I will consider this.
How paced is it - I see that students can work at their own pace, but need to submit assignments each week? Does that mean that as long as they do something each week they can spread the same course out over a longer period of time? Or are there set assignments that have to be completed each week?
There is a pace chart that has students submitting around 3 assignments per week so that they can finish a semester in 16-18 weeks. However, as long as a student is working, they can extend the pace if needed.
