As it nears the end of October I was wonderiing if anyone can help me with a couple things. First, I need to sign up for Portfolio this spring. Is there any thing I need before signing up? Also, I plan to graduate in May 2013, what do I need to do now to apply for graduation? Thanks for your help.
The first step is applying for your Application for Admission to Candicacy (after 18 credits you can apply for that). Then, you log on to BroncoWeb and pay your graduation fees. That is as far as I have gotten. I think then you get a special code to register for portfolio. Hope this helps. I am on the same journey and want to make sure I get everything done correctly.
A great link was posted on EDTECH's Facebook page about a week ago regarding this, which I found to be helpful. I am also in the same boat.
The link is http://edtech.boisestate.edu/current-students/culminating-activities/. It was helpful and gave step by step instructions too.
The link for the form itself is: http://edtech.boisestate.edu/current-students/academic-forms/#portfolioapp
Hope this helps! Good luck!
Is anyone else taking final electives while taking the Portfolio class? I've heard that this is not the best situation but also don't want to add 8 months onto my program by waiting until fall to take this final class (since Portfolio is not offered in the summer session.) How has everyone solved this problem?
The link provided above regarding the portofio states, "It is fine to take ELECTIVE courses at the same time as the portfolio, however, all CORE courses should be completed prior to the portfolio class."
I will be in the same situation as you, and I will be taking my portfolio class and final elective credit this spring for a May graduation!
Are you going to attend? Perhaps I will see you there!
I'm taking two electives with Portfolio which I think is why BSU is concerned. I didn't think I'd want to both with graduation but it might be an excuse to road trip.
I'm currently living this reality. It was very stressful leading up to the preliminary review (about the first 6 weeks). After this period, its not a problem at all. My portfolio instructor provided me with the attached graphic to put things in perspective. Good luck!
This graphic is most helpful in making my decision whether or not I can survive two electives in addition to the Portfolio class. Looks like six weeks or so of 35 hours/week plus the 20/week for each of the electives. If i give up my day off a week and work evening as well as the day, I think I can do it. I have to weigh that pace against adding 8 months time to my graduation if I postpone the Portfolio class until Fall.
Question for you. I have been posting my assignments in a WordPress blog throughout my program. It is organized by time (obviously for a blog). Will this help me reduce the amount of time the "assemble the Portfolio" in the beginning of class will take?
Thanks again so very much for your input,
Oh... wow! I didn't know you were taking 2 electives! My advice is to use your Xmas break wisely. Map out your projects to standards and begin working on your paper and/or video during this time. If you can get a good jump start on the portfolio, you could greatly reduce the load during the first 6 weeks. In general, do as much of a first draft as you can before the start of the semester and you may find it all more manageable.
Excellent advice Brianne! Thank you so much,
I'm taking 506 with Portfolio. I don't want to add on time, so I figured I will just max myself out next semester.
I'll be doing the same thing as you next semester! Jerry Foster helped me to plan out my classes when I first started and he said it should be fine!
There is finite timetable with regards to applying for graduation in May 2013.
I recommend you contact Paul Castelin: PaulCastelin@boisestate.edu and Elizabeth Kringen: firstname.lastname@example.org for information about the process of graduation and portfolio respectively.
Good news all! Edtech is going to offer a summer session of Portfolio for students like myself who are in the pickle of either over loading the Spring semester or adding 8 months onto graduation.
The kicker though is that there needs to be enough students wanting the summer Portfolio session for it to fly. Please email Elizabeth Kringen at email@example.com if you are interested so that she can accurately guage interest.
