School Technology Policy
- Ashley Hungerford の投稿Hello everyone,
I am a teacher at a small IB international school in Florida PK-12th grade. We need to revamp our technology policy, currently it is very weak and does not address many of our issues. Beginning next year we are requiring laptops for every student 6th grade and up. We currently allow for multiple devices but have no real policy in place. We also have no acceptable use terminology. Does anyone out there have a good comprehensive policy that I could use to help build my own policy?
Thank you,
Ashley

- Dr. John Thompson の投稿Sounds like a classic case of the "cart before the horse," Ashley, with the school jumping into a laptop (not iPads?) initiative without first having a tech plan and/or policy in place. Ouch..
Choosing to require laptops should really be viewed as a means to an end (e.g., increased student achievement) and should ideally be part of of a tech plan.
I'd suggest making sure that there are agreed upon (stakeholder agreement) objectives for starting the laptop initiative and also an agreed upon method to evaluate if the objectives are reached. (And definitely make sure to have sufficient teacher training on using laptops as teaching tools.) Also, hope the school has done a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) study for adding all those laptops.
Good luck.
