As graduation approaches, I am wondering what happens to the course I created in Moodle Sandbox and those sites uploaded via the edtech2 server. Will they be taken down after graduation? Is there a way I can keep them ...perhaps by uploading them to another server outside of Boise?
I've had the same questions about websites I built on the EdTech2 server. I ended downloading all the files so I can always re-upload them elsewhere.
You can download all of your EDTECH2 server files in Dreamweaver and save them on your hard drive. You may already have them if you worked from a system with local (your hard drive) and remote (server side) views in Dreamweaver. Your files on the EDTECH2 server will eventually be removed, but I am not exactly sure what the timeline is for that.
Moodle courses can be exported through the Admin panel. Try the Backup tool to create a downloadable copy (mbz file). Just click through the steps and you should have an option to download from the user private backup files at the end of the backup process. Your backup course file can be imported into another Moodle hosting service of your choosing.
Thank you Dr. Snelson,
Our MET portfolios include links to the Edtech2 server, for assignments we completed for EdTech 502. I can keep these files, but am wondering what would be your suggestion for maintaining access to these pages for future 592 Portfolio students. From experience, this semester we were granted access to old portfolios, and virtually all of those housed on the EdTech2 server were dead links because they were removed.
Would you recommend a different service that could host these pages more permanently?
I hope I'm making sense.
Please note that EdTech2 server and Moodle Access would be different:
The EdTech department deletes edtech2 accounts one year after a student graduates. However, students typically loose FTP to their account 30 days after graduation. Therefore, it is recommended that you download and archive a copy of your portfolio right after graduation.
The EdTech department archives Moodle courses data after every semester, therefore course Moodle access would be granted by each Instructor if needed.
Moodle Sandbox Courses
Will be available for one year after a student graduates.
Please also note that Moodle has the function to export your course content to other Moodle servers. So if your institution has a Moodle server you might talk with them about migrating your course to a server you will have continued and direct access to.
