I am currently a 5th grade teacher but am transitioning next year to be a Lower School Technology Coordinator (pre-k through 5th). The role involves teaching computer skills and helping teachers integrate technology into the classrooms. In addition, I will be helping develop a Makerspace for our school full of tinkering tools (Makey Makeys, Catalyst kits, 3D printers, Sphero Robotic balls, etc.) and running a Junior First Lego League. I was wondering if there is anyone else in this program in a similar position who would like to collaborate and share ideas/successes/failures, etc. I think we could really benefit from hearing about one another's experiences. Please let me know if so, and we can get an email chain going. Thank you!
This sounds so exciting. What a great opportunity. I'm sure you'll get a lot of input from
our great students and faculty.
Congratulations on your new position. I have been in a similar role for 4 years now, K-5. I train teachers, coach certain teachers on an on-going basis, collaborate and design lessons/units that integrate technology. I have an assistant that teaches computer lab rotation and another teaching assistant that runs our design center, which is similar to maker space. I would love to collaborate on ideas and such.
Please include me! Congrats again.
Sounds like a great move to make! I am finishing my first year in as my school's technology specialist (K-5). Our programs are being completely redone, so I am continuously trying to come up with new ideas and resources. My program doesn't have as wide a scope as it sounds like yours does (not yet anyway!), but I would love to collaborate with you and anyone else who is interested!
I have been in this role at an international school in China for 5 years now. I would be glad to share things with you. Might I suggest you get into a community on a social network. I find being able to connect with many like minded people gives me more than just a few people through email. Are you on Twitter, G+ and LinkedIn? If so, let's connect. http://greentigercreations.com/
I love the idea of having a G+ for us to meet and share in. Count me in!
I already have a community of tech coordinators, coaches, facilitators in International Schools on G+ if you all would like to join in you are most welcome. It is a small community of about 89. https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/118341746474855971508
I have joined your community. Thanks for letting us know.
I am a middle school math teacher and I also teach computer programming (I have a computer science minor from my other life). I am being moved to the position of Educational Technologist for my school in July. I will be the only person in this new role for a school Pre-k to 12th grade. We do have an IT person who handles hardware. I would love to connect with all of you and share ideas (probably get ideas more than share at this point). I am super excited about this new position. We do not currently use much technology so it will be a challenge. Thanks for the idea!!
This is the kind of position I want, but I am having a hard time finding them in my area (Western PA - Pittsburgh). Moving is not an option. So, if anyone can give suggestions on how to find these positions, that would be great. Would you recommend a mass mailing to schools in my area to inquire about possible openings?
